Friendship is a difficult concept. ?Miscommunication, betrayal, gossip, annoyance, hurt, and silence are all factors that can effect a relationship. ?I?ve had my own share of losses in this area, and I don?t believe that I am done losing, either. ?Relationships with certain people will come and go. ?Encouraging, however, is that these relationships were not pointless.
For everything there is a season,
and a time for every matter under heaven.
(Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Things happen. Situations aren?t always perfect. God didn?t intend for friendships to end in ways that they do. This is the consequence we endure because of sin. Fortunately, God can bring something good out of that broken situation.
I was reading a wonderful post by Sarah Markley this morning, and what an encouragement it was! ?While she shared about the loss of certain friendships, she urged us to see the gain that will one day come in God?s timing!
While I do see patterns in current friendships of mine that could cause a loss in the future, I?m not going to focus on what could come. ?Like I said, friendships are difficult. ?When those difficulties arise, I?m simply going to let go and, after making sure that if I caused a hurt, to truly apologize for it and make amends as best as I can, I?m not going to fret about what the other person thinks about me. ?I?m simply going to continue on with my life? losing those friendships if they chose to leave. ?I?m not going to bother holding on to the hurt, letting it build up and bitterness to creep in. ?I?ll always be available. ?I?ll always be a friend if someone is in need or want. ?However, I will not try to hold onto something that wants to be let go. ?I will move on, and I will wait for the gain that comes in time. True friendship. True community. ?All for the glory of God.
